THE WESTERN WATERFALL & CASCADE 100 (LWC100)
Commentary
This challenge was developed utilizing as a primary reference North Carolina Waterfalls by Kevin Adams. Jack Fitzgerald, a long time member of the Club who has a keen interest in waterfalls, developed the list of the “top 100” waterfalls and cascades which he believes are most worthy for this challenge. Members of the Challenge Committee “tweaked” just slightly the list. The criteria, while judgmental, were geared around a rating system from the book and from Jack’s own personal grading system. While there are between 1,000 and 1,500 waterfalls in North Carolina, the goal was to select those believed to be the most interesting and beautiful.
There are no known private property issues. Kevin Adams in his book was very careful to avoid any private property entanglements. While routes may skirt private property in a few instances, all falls can be reached without encroachment on to private property.
