This site has been prepared to help persons choose day hikes on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST) in the Asheville area between Mt. Pisgah and Mt Mitchell . Most of the trail is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP) and is marked with a round three-inch white blaze. Hike numbers are arbitrarily chosen for purposes of facilitating the use of this site. All hike descriptions are given in the north to south direction. The difficulty of the hike is based on the authors' estimate for a hiker of average ability., and the first letter in parentheses refers to the north to south direction and the second to the south to north direction (E=easy; M=moderate; S=Strenuous). Thus, (E/M) signifies that the section is an easy hike in the south to north. Milepost mileage for the BRP is given to help in locating trail access points, and the BRP mileage will often differ slightly from the MST Trail mileage. Only access points with parking permitted are included in this brochure. Trail miles are given for each section and are one-way only (keep in mind when planning a hike). The material is intentionally superficial, and persons are referred to the excellent publication, Trail Profiles: The Mountains to Sea Trail, by Walt Weber, for detailed information. The parts of The MST Trail covered are maintained by the Carolina Mountain Club (CMC). This system of presenting hikes on the BRP is designed to inform the public about Western North Carolina and to encourage people to hike its wonderful trails.

Happy Hiking!
